Children Who Survived Fatal Crash Reunited With Hero
This sad event got me alot more publicity than I deserved, but on the bright side .... I was nominated as the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Highway Angel in October of 2014, and won the TCA Highway Angel of the Year Award for 2014 at the TCA annual convention in Kissimmee, Florida on March 10th 2015.
I want everyone to know though honored by receiving the award, there were many hero's that dreadful day:
1) The gentleman that assisted me in the rescue, who bravely pushed his way through the crowd of onlookers and approached me at the burning car and placed his life in my hands by crawling into the wreckage and cutting the victim free while I fought the flames ... Without his help, this story would have had a much different ending.
2) The deceased parents, who unknowingly saved the infant's life by strapping the baby into the infant car seat that day prior to leaving Memphis.
3) The 1st responders, who freed the second child from the wreckage, the Life Flight pilots and crews who landed both helicopters perpendicular on the Highway with their rotors spinning only feet from the same treeline that just took 3 lives.
4) The Tennessee Highway Patrol who shut down Interstate 40, secured the scene, provided me with additional fire extinguishers when mine depleted it's contents.
Though I received this award for the things I did that day, there would have been little success without each and all of the hero's that helped me that day.
God Bless you all and God Bless those that did not survive. I will never forget that day, and what all of you did to help.

Colorado Monarch Pass Winter
Переглядів 1,1 млн9 років тому
Monarch Pass, Colorado: Ride along in this winter wonderland! US Highway 50 between Salida and Gunnison Colorado. Monarch mountain is approx 12000', and the pass is at 11,300'. Great fun, great scenery and sometimes some challenging driving. One of the few passes left with few guard rails which has an interesting effect on how one drives!
Allied Van with Overheated brakes
Переглядів 26 тис.9 років тому
Allied driver ran into an overheated brake problem and tried to get to safe haven before overheating turned to fire. Hope he got it all handled without any significant damage. Local drivers helped (via radio) direct him to a retail store where he could get it parked and out of the way while I covered his back door and communicated updates. Teamwork at it's finest by a bunch of strangers.
Company Lease vs. Company Driver
Переглядів 15 тис.9 років тому
Just crunched some numbers after getting approached by a trucking company offering me a lease-option. If you walk-away (or are forced to walk-away) from a 5 or 7 year lease on an over-priced truck, you will have only worked for 20cpm for all that time! Would the company load you first if it had company drivers needing loads? I don't think these leases offer anything but failure to those who can...

This wreck had just occurred prior to my rolling up to the scene. The truck was completely burned out as seen in this video. I don't know if the driver made it out okay, but I don't see how he could have. The EMT's were working on a fellow fire fighter as I drove by, but saw no trace of the driver. Hope he made it out and to safety before the fire engulfed his rig. UPDATE 07/21/14: According to...

CRST Backing SLC

Video captured of a Team Operated CRST Big Truck caught in a backing accident at the Love's in Salt Lake City, Utah on 6/17/14. Never understood why a truck has a backing accident when both drivers are sitting in the truck and no one is spotting. The driver then drove away as if nothing had happened, but it's unlikely Love's will let him get away without facing some justice for this unneccessar...

No trucker wants to stop at the scales, and it's usually not about running illegal or heavy ... it's just wasted time and we can't afford to waste any time. In this case, I had NO idea what the hell they wanted me to do and failure to comply is not a small thing: CVC Section 2813. Every driver of a commercial vehicle shall stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection of the size, weight, equipm...

Double Fatality mm343 I-80 Wyoming (Eastbound)
Переглядів 9 тис.10 років тому
2 died in this wreck which apparently was caused by a single vehicle towing a U-Haul trailer that lost control and crashed into the median cable supports upside down. We think one child and one adult were declared dead at the scene, but at least one other infant child survived in the infant car seat. This wreck snarled traffic for more than 2 hours, shutting down I-80 in both directions.
TankerCrash
Переглядів 1,7 тис.10 років тому
Liquified Natural Gas tanker drifted off the road and crashed into the median. Driver reports indicated the driver survived, however his load and truck did not. As we passed, the tanker was still decompressing, and Hazmat crews were standing by waiting for the tank pressure to reach a safe level for recovery of the wreckage.

Nice job I think you've got a future lol. What you said about running your own race and not succumbing to pressure, in my opinion, one of the best pieces of advice anyone inexperienced or unsure could get. I recall the feeling from when I first started, you look back at the traffic in the mirror, gee maybe Im going to slow, like its been said by many you can go down a grade to fast once. Thanks again good video.

I have a kid in college (western in Gunnison) and one who’s graduated from there. I always tell my wife absolutely will NOT drive Monarch pass during the winter. The closest I came to driving in snow through Monarch was mid spring and that was enough for me. This route will not only test your character, it also test your confidence. Kudos for the drivers who drive through this for a living. Not a pass your want to drive like your in a hurry during the winter..

Thank you for the ride driver,,,,when the wife and I travel with the rv, I really enjoy getting in among the trucks and driving along with you folks. Spent the night at Ilani Casino February 2022 and got up around 3:00 am to check on the generator gas and upon opening the rv door a huge blowing of snow whistled inside. By the time we left, around 7:30 am, I had swept off all the head lights and marker lights and completed our pre trip check, there was at least 2 or 3 drivers asking weather we was going north or south we was going south and they all said that that was good because 2 miles north of there all three north bound lanes were closed because of an accident. We thanked them and thought that was really great they let us know of the road conditions. Take care out there and drive safe.

i'm 58 yrs. old, live in the upper peninsula of michigan. the older i get, the more i hate winters. i now understand why my dad bitched about the winters. most days, driving in the winter isn't too bad. but there are enough days where it's pure hell and that's driving in town. i can't imagine driving a 18 wheeler, especially in the winter time. OH HELL NO!!!

I've been over this pass in a snowstorm from hell. Got to the top after a white knuckle drive up and couldn't see a thing. I didnt want to risk getting stuck so I went down the other side,,,got to the point I couldn't even see the hood. Then I popped out of this blizzard and the road was dry and the sun was out. No kidding

Followed a big rig up this thing last night in a damn blizzard. Thank God he was there and beautifully navigated this sucker with at least an inch an hour of snow. Only good thing at night is you can't see down, just the road. Also, going down is scarier than up. Plus I don't fear my driving, just the oncoming idiots who could wreck you over the side.
